Young readers book published in the 1940-1955

Further to a recent comment added to a page / post on here I am adding it here on the blog / notes area.

Can anyone help Mr (?) R Johnson? Please get in touch with me, Mike Finding, by email on and I will make sure this is passed on. Many thanks…

I am looking for a young readers book published in the 1940-1955 time frame, probably entitled “Snowshoe Thompson”. Wish to buy a copy, but cannot find it on the internet. Do you know the title, publisher and year??

  1. The book your looking for is titled “Snowshoe Thompson”. The copyright year is 1957. The authors are Adrien Stoutenburg and Laura Nelson Baker. Publisher is Charles Scribner’s Sons in New York. I presently have this book checked out of the Washoe County Library in Incline Village.
    Hope this helps.

    1. Mike – thank you for sharing this! I hope this helps Mr(?) R Johnson…. I will see if we have an email address and let him know… ;0)

  2. Sometime this last spring when visiting this site, I thought I read that there was some big event concerning Snowshoe Thompson coming in 2014 or 2016. Is such an event coming?
Also, I’ve read that a movie is being made about Snowshoe. Is this true?

In response to the books for young people published about Snowshoe in the 1950s, there is a second one, Flying Snowshoes, by Evelyn Teal, published by The Caxton Printers in 1957.
